MASTER CLASSES
Master Classes with Internationally Renowned Guest Artists
Free admission
A Master Class is a class given to students of a particular discipline by an expert. If you are a
teacher, a player, or someone with an interest in the learning process, you will be fascinated to
watch and listen to students from the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and see how the music
changes and develops as these masterful musicians work with them.

Saturday, March 31,2012 10 a.m.
With her "commanding stage presence" (The Strad), Bulgarian violinist Bella Hristova engages audiences with equal mastery of "impressive power and control" (The Washington Post) and "expressive nuance" (The New York Times). Born in Pleven, Bulgaria in 1985, Ms. Hristova began violin studies at the age of six. At 12, she participated in master classes with Ruggiero Ricci at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since the age of 13, she has lived in the United States. In 2003, Ms. Hristova entered The Curtis Institute, where she worked with Ida Kavafian. And studied chamber music with Steven Tenenbom. She received her Artist Diploma with Jaime Laredo at Indiana University in 2010. Ms. Hristova plays a 1655 Nicolo Amati violin, once owned by the violinist Louis Krasner. First Prize Winner in the 2008-09 Young Artists International Auditions, Ms. Hristova made her debut in the Young Concert Artists Series during the 2009-10 season at Merkin Concert Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

Saturday, May 5,2011 2 p.m.
Born in Israel in 1970, cellist Matt Haimovitz came to prominence as a teenager, beginning his studies at Juilliard in

the age of 16, and by 17 he had secured a record deal with classical music giant Deutsche Grammophon. His first
release for the label, 1989's Lalo and Saint-Saens Cello Concertos, was followed by albums of cello work by composers
