Listener’s Club April 30 and May 1

Robbie Herbst, Assistant Principal Second Violin with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, will discuss the upcoming ESO concerts celebrating the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony debuted May 7, 1842, in Vienna, Austria. Herbst will discuss the music and the composer behind this renowned work at free Listener’s Club events at the Barrington Area Library on Tuesday, April 30, at 1 p.m., and at the Gail Borden Public Library in downtown Elgin on Wednesday, May 1, at noon.

The award-winning ESO will perform the masterpiece, along with Jessie Montgomery’s Hymn for Everyone and Mozart’s Ave verum corpus, on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5, at the Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin, Ill.
