KIDZ KONZERTS (for grades K-5)
What’s So Scary About a Rubber Shark?
Randal Swiggum, Conductor
Especially designed to introduce young listeners to the orchestra, these entertaining 50 minute concerts explore aspects of symphonic music such as form, motif, ostinato, and musical tension, as well as introducing the “characters” of instruments of the orchestra. With the music of Wagner, Stravinsky, Holst, Bizet, and such popular film scores as John Williams’ Harry Potter & the Sorceror’s Stone and Star Wars, as well as the swashbuckling classic, The Adventures of Robin Hood, with Erich Korngold’s dazzling music, elementary age students will be captivated by the sound of a grand symphony orchestra.

MUSIC IN THE MIDDLE (for Grades 6-8)
Take Two: A Closer Look at Movie Music
Randal Swiggum, Conductor
Today most kids first experience the symphony orchestra in the movie theatre or at home with DVD player, where grand musical scores like Star Wars provide drama and excitement. This concert, aimed at middle-schoolers (both music and non-music students), provides the thrill of a live orchestra, playing both film music and dazzling symphonic music of Stravinsky, Bizet, Holst, and Wagner. With a fast-paced program and film clips, the concert will explore how orchestra music “works” in movies and in the concert hall.
