2010-2011 YOUNG VIRTUOSI COMPETITION
Chicago-area piano trios in grade 12 and younger are invited to participate in the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Young Virtuosi Competition on Saturday, October 9, 2010 (10am-1pm). The winner(s) of this competition will perform the final movement of Beethoven's Triple Concerto in C Major, Op. 56 at the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Kidz and Family Concerts in April 2011 at Hemmens Theatre in Elgin. In addition, winners will receive the opportunity to be coached in the months leading up to the performances by three visiting guest artists who will be performing the full Beethoven Triple Concerto at an ESO Subscription concert in May. The artists are Chee Yun (violin), Alisa Weilerstein (cello) and Inon Barnatan (piano).
The purpose of the 2010-11 Young Virtuosi Competition is to provide area students with an exceptional performance experience. The winning trio(s) will receive coachings from some of the best rising young stars in the music world, and will also have the opportunity to perform the piece with a professional symphony orchestra several times throughout the Kidz Konzert week.
The competition is open to students enrolled in grade 12 or below as of October 1, 2010 living in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Students must enter as a trio (violin, cello and piano). More than one winner may be selected, in which case, the concert dates and coachings may be split between winning trios. The deadline for applications is Friday, September 24, 2010.

JEAN HOVE YOUNG MUSICIAN SCHOLARSHIPS
Nominations for 2010 are now closed. This annual scholarship program is offered jointly by Elgin Community College and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and is made possible through the generosity of Elgin Community College, the Elgin Community College Foundation, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
The Jean Hove Young Musician Scholarship is a program designed to develop the talent of young musicians, especially those who have been historically under-represented in the field of classical music. Students who are in grades 6-9 who live within ECC's district boudaries and have completed at least two years of musical training in their school band or orchestra program are eligible. Student must not have completed more than one year of private music instruction and must demonstrate outstanding musical and leadership potential. Students with financial need will be given additional consideration.
Only one scholarship will be awarded each year. The student awarded the scholarship will receive six semesters (two years) of free private music instruction at Elgin Community College*. In addition, the student will receive three season subscriptions to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra Classics Series, as well as free rental during the scholarship period. Upon successful completion of the scholarship program, the student will be awarded his or her musical instrument.
*Instruments covered by this scholarship include: cello, clarinet, flute, french horn,oboe, trumpet, viola, violin. Please contact ECC for a complete list of teachers.
