JEAN HOVE YOUNG MUSICIAN SCHOLARSHIPS
Nominations for 2012 are now being accepted through April 1, 2012.
This annual scholarship program is offered jointly by Elgin Community College and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and is made possible through the generosity of Elgin Community College, the Elgin Community College Foundation, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
The Jean Hove Young Musician Scholarship is a program designed to develop the talent of young musicians, especially those who have been historically under-represented in the field of classical music. Students who are in grades 6-9 who live within ECC's district boundaries. and have completed at least two years of musical training in their school band or orchestra program are eligible. Student must not have completed more than one year of private music instruction and must demonstrate outstanding musical and leadership potential. Students with financial need will be given additional consideration.
The student awarded the scholarship will receive six semesters (two years) of free private music instruction at Elgin Community College*. In addition, the student will receive three season subscriptions to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra Classics Series, as well as free rental during the scholarship period.** Upon successful completion of the scholarship program, the student will be awarded his or her musical instrument.
*Instruments covered by this scholarship include: cello, clarinet, flute, french horn,oboe, trumpet, viola, violin. Please contact ECC for a complete list of teachers.

THE JEAN HOVE YOUNG MUSICIAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROCESS HAS THREE PHASES :
1. Nomination of Students by School Instrumental Music Instructor
2. Selection of Finalist
Upon receipt of the school’s recommendation, the Jean Hove Young Musician Scholarship Committee will review the completed applications and select a maximum of seven finalists.
