Health and Safety
The ESO is thrilled to return to the stage for an exciting 2021-2022 season! We look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy live performances with your Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
The health and safety of our musicians, staff, and you are paramount as we resume live concert experiences. As such, we have established the following policies in accordance with CDC and State of Illinois guidelines to best protect everyone who enters the concert hall:
- All audience members must provide proof of complete vaccination for COVID-19 prior to entering the concert venue, regardless if these were previously shown or submitted.
- Please bring your COVID-19 vaccination record to the performance (photos of both sides of the record are also accepted), as well as photo Identification.
- Masks are recommended but optional for concert attendees at the Hemmens Cultural Center.
- Tickets will be on sale at the Hemmens Cultural Center one-hour prior to each performance. However, to be mindful of the safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, we encourage that our patrons purchase tickets in advance to prevent crowding within the venue.
- Pre-purchased tickets may be collected at Will Call on the day of the concert. Tickets purchased online the day of the concert will require proof of purchase. the concert.

Richard Mizell
Rick Mizell retired as Senior Music Producer in 2019 after 37 years with the Walt Disney Company. His responsibilities during those years included performing musician, leader, Talent Casting Coordinator, EPCOT Entertainment Manager, conductor and producer. For the EPCOT Candlelight Processional and Massed Choir Program, Rick held a variety of management and performing roles starting in 1990 culminating in 2003-2018 as Producer and Principal Conductor. In 2017 he produced and conducted the highly successful 13-week run of PIXAR Live! A Symphony of Characters at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Working with noted composers and orchestrators in the world’s most recognized recording studios, including an IAAPA Award winning show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and several international award-winning fireworks shows, he produced over 24 shows for Tokyo Disneyland Entertainment and extensive entertainment offerings and theater shows for all of the Disney Cruise Line ships.
As featured guest conductor Rick has appeared with nationally recognized orchestras with EPCOT’s Mariachi Cobre and Doc Severinsen. His arrangements and orchestrations for brass band and orchestra have been performed and published throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Switzerland. Rick continues to maintain a 50-year relationship with the Interlochen Center for the Arts and has conducted workshops pertaining to music production and careers in music at Interlochen, Columbus State University and in Florida and North Carolina.
Rick and his wife split their time between Florida and Interlochen, Michigan, enjoying great art, family, friends and what each area has to offer.
Mariachi Acero de Las Vegas
Mariachi Acero de Las Vegas’ 2018 concert series took director Erik Ramirez and its members to venues all across the United States. Mariachi Acero’s 2018 tour included performances in Chicago, Los Angeles, Reno, Milwaukee, and of course, Las Vegas, Nevada. Mariachi Acero performed at the 2018 Chicago Mariachi Festival at the Jay Pritzker Pavillion at Millennium Park, before an audience of 25,000 Mariachi aficionados. Mariachi Acero de Las Vegas has shared the stage with the greatest Mariachi ensembles in the world including Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez, and Mariachi Los Camperos. They have also had the pleasure of accompanying top Latino artists such as Emmanuel, Jenni Rivera, Angeles Ochoa, Lorenzo de Monteclaro, Pancho Barraza, Maribel Guardia, Los Temerarios, Pablo Montero, Gerardo Ortiz, Voz de Mando, and Banda Limon to name few.
Mariachi Acero de Las Vegas was founded in 2008 by Erik Ramirez. Mariachi Acero de Las Vegas received top accolades as 1st Place Grand National Champions at the 2012 and 2013 Mariachi Nationals hosted by Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez. They also went on to take 1st place at the 2014 Battle of the Mariachis at San Juan Capistrano Mission in California.
