All-orchestral program
Stravinsky – Petrushka (1947)
Tchaikovsky – Sleeping Beauty Suite
Tchaikovsky – Swan Lake Suite
This all-orchestral program spotlighting the world-class ESO musicians, features Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake suites, based on two of the most famous and beloved ballets of all time, and Stravinksy’s Petrushka (1947), composed near the end of his “Russian folk period” and before his groundbreaking, riot-inducing work The Rite of Spring. It tells the story of three puppets brought to life that experience the very real human emotions of love, passion and jealousy.
“My years as a violinist in the New York City Ballet Orchestra have given me a real affinity for the great ballets, Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake among them. Although I never got to play Stravinsky’s Petrushka, it has been a favorite score for many years!” Andrew Grams
